The most fattening time of the year is upon us. Holiday parties, festivities, treats at work, and lots of food! How are you going to fit into your jeans in January? You have to give yourself a pep talk now so you can prepare yourself mentally to be strong enough to resist too many of the sabotaging foods. Remind yourself of all the wonderful reasons you want to be healthy throughout the season and in years to come. Imagine yourself in February putting on the belt that still fits perfectly. Remember the feeling you have when you are at your best. Come up with a thought or activity that will help you when you are tempted to make a poor choice.
You can enjoy all of the festivities but keep in mind what you are putting into your mouth. Drink water and eat vegetables to to help resist temptations. When you already have something in your hands, you are less likely to wander over to the food table grabbing things with a high number of empty calories. You could always grab something healthy to eat at your house before you go to an event where there will be lots of snacks. One good choice leads to another and you may not feel as tempted to grab snacks if you have just eaten something filling and nutritious.
Stressing about the food and constantly worrying about it will only make it more difficult. If you happen to make poor choices at one party it doesn’t mean you should just forget it and continue down that road. Get back on the right track as soon as possible. There’s no need to wait until the next day, do it right away.
You definitely need to put exercise on your schedule and try your very best to stick to it, treating it like any other holiday appointment. Exercising regularly through the hoidays will help with keeping your energy levels up and your emotions in a good place. Seize the opportunity to get in some physical activity whenever possible, even if it is only a brisk walk through the parking lot or taking the stairs at the shopping center.
